OPERATION FUEL AND FOODSHARE – TWO GREAT ORGANIZATIONS THAT NEED OUR HELP

As we get ready for the winter ahead, we should remember some of our friends and neighbors are struggling to keep their homes warm and their families fed. There is less federal and state money available to help pay for heating assistance and the October storm resulted in local food pantries being stretched to the limit.  As we think of giving this holiday season, two worthy local non-profit organizations that help fill major needs in our community deserve our special attention – Operation Fuel and Foodshare.

WINTER STORM UPDATE

Dear Neighbors,
Mother Nature seems to have delivered part two of a one, two punch. First with storm Irene, now with a record snowfall some are calling storm “Alfred,” we have seen some devastating storm damage. These storms are really a test of our resolve and teach us to help each other. We must pull together as a community and share resources to get to make these difficult days a little brighter. Thank you for checking on your neighbors and please share this with anyone who does not have Internet.
Below is a reference list of helpful resources:

Emergency Services

Avon High School – Emergency Shelter
510 West Avon Rd. in Avon
* Heating station, charging station, hot showers, meals ready to eat, public restrooms and overnight sleeping are available.
* If staying overnight, please bring the following items as needed:
Bedding (pillows, sleeping bags, linens, etc.), extra clothing, toiletries, flashlights, batteries, personal entertainment such as board games or books, and necessary medications.

 Canton Community Center – Emergency Shelter
40 Dyer Ave. in Canton
* Warming station, charging station, coffee, meals ready to eat, public restrooms and overnight sleeping is available.
* If staying overnight, please bring the following items as needed:
Bedding (pillows, sleeping bags, linens, etc.), extra clothing, toiletries, flashlights, batteries, personal entertainment such as board games or books, and necessary medications.

14 E Hill Rd. in Canton
* Showers are available at the pool house today through Friday from 1:00PM – 5:30PM.
