Rep. Tim LeGeyt and Sen. Witkos Pleased Avon Free Public Library Project will Receive State Grant
State Bond Commission approves funding for library expansion
Rep. Tim LeGeyt, of Avon and Canton, was pleased at the Bond Commission’s approval of the remaining $ 1 million needed for the complete funding of the Avon Free Public Library expansion project. The Avon Free Public Library was library was originally built in 1982 and in recent years has outgrown its capacity.
The project will provide library visitors with more room for seating, will expand the storage area for library collections and will provide areas for research and public meetings. The project also includes new computer work spaces.
“This is a much anticipated project for the people of Avon. The new renovations will allow more users to enjoy the benefits of the public library and to experience learning in a new way with updated technology space and expanded capacities. Along with benefiting the people of Avon, this new project will aid Connecticut construction jobs and provide work in the local area,” said Rep. LeGeyt after the meeting.
Sales Tax Free Week
Sales Tax Free Week
This week, from Aug. 15th through Aug. 21st, is Connecticut’s “Sales Tax Holiday” week.
Connecticut’s 6% sales tax will be eliminated for all clothing and footwear purchases under $300 per item through this Saturday. Since sales tax is calculated after the use of any coupons or discounts, if the final price is less than $300, the sale is exempt from taxes. However, purchases equaling more than $300 will have full sales tax calculated into the cost.
Clothing or footwear under $300 either rented or put on layaway is also tax-free.
